Anna’s Story part 63

Fire Drill

Fire Drill

I can’t believe I wrote the words “not so bad here” last week. Boy did I still have a bad attitude even last week! I must be growing up fast. Now just 7 days later I have to change that to “ I am so glad I am here.”  I never stopped to think about it before, the shelter is paying for the electric which runs the heat and A/C. They share everything that comes in. I have gotten baby clothes and diapers and even my stroller. Before I just thought they should give me those things. Now I understand they have actually been helping me this whole time and I thought they were just harassing me. Like when we have to have a fire drill and have to go outside when it is not convenient. We had another fire drill yesterday. It seemed like a good idea this time. It helps the kids not be so scared if there is a real fire and it helps me know I keep my kids safe if I need to. Now I know what to do if there is a fire. They always give a couple of fire safety tips once we get outside. Yesterday they reminded Noah not to “hide from the fire” under the bed. And they reminded me to put a lid on a grease fire in a pan. I think the staff here are actually trying to help us. They like us! I never knew that before.
